SHOGUN OF TIME, SLOT REVIEW

Powered by Microgaming

A combined effort from Just For The Win and Microgaming, Shogun of Time was released earlier in 2019 to excellent player reception. It is the latest online casino slot game from the developers that has 4 x 3 reels and as many as 81 initial paylines.

The game is visually appealing with a unique theme that combines elements of ancient Japan with cyberpunk. This extremely interesting slot game also has a very soothing soundtrack to match the colourful theme.

Rules

The betting amount on each payline ranges between 0.10 to 100 credits, which the player can adjust individually for each payline, or set the same for all of them.

The player can win by landing three or more of the same symbols on any one of the paylines, but the more paylines that have three or more matching symbols, the higher the winning amount is.

Any number of paylines can be activated per spin, with the maximum being 81, unless a bonus is triggered.  There are five low-paying symbols, which are represented by A, K, Q, J and 10.

There are also five high paying symbols, which are silver coins, Japanese fans, ancient Samurai armour, ancient Samurai helmets and the logo of the game itself (Shogun of Time). If on any of the paylines, the ‘Shogun of Time’ logo appears on all the reels, the player’s winning amount is multiplied by 12.

Extra Features and Free Spins

On landing four matching symbols, the ‘Reel Split Re-Spin’ feature may activate and an additional reel is added to the slot, right in between the second and the third reel.

Once in this mode, the paylines will increase from a maximum of 81 to a maximum of 243, and only the new reel will spin, as the rest of the reels remain immobile in a locked position.

The Jackpots

The scatter symbol is a cherry blossom symbol in Shogun of Time, and if the player manages to land three or four of them, he/she will win eight or sixteen free spins respectively.

As the free spins are activated, the extra reel in between the second and the third reel appears once again, increasing the ways to 243, just like with the Shogun of Time symbol, but with a slight difference.

This time, the extra reel in the middle stays stacked and fixed with wild symbols (the time-traveling cyberpunk), making it easier to land winning combinations in the bonus rounds. However, the free spins cannot be won again with matching scatters during the bonus round.

Verdict

Shogun of Time is visually impressive and pleasing to the ear as well, thanks to the beautiful soundtrack in the background and some neat animation work by the developers.

While it won’t be the most complicated slot game in an online casino, the appeal of the slot lies in its simplicity, beautiful presentation and unique theme, all of which makes the experience quite entertaining.

Also, Shogun of Time has an RTP of 96.02% which is impressive and inspiring enough for players to give it a try.
